Tic Clinic
At Lakeshore Psychology & Wellness Center, we are passionate about offering specialized services to persons with tics and their families.
We are the only clinic in the Province of Québec with a practicing Certified CBIT Therapist with the Tourette Association of America.
We are proud to offer the following services:
-
Psychological Evaluation of Tics and related disorders beginning at age 5 through adulthood. This service includes a comprehensive psychological evaluation report that summarizes our assessment findings, and our recommendations for school, work and home.
-
Diagnostic Statement With Recommendations is available for those clients who have already received a formal diagnosis of tic disorder from a neurologist. Upon receiving a written confirmation of a diagnosis of Tourette or other tic disorder directly from your/your child's physician, we prepare a letter with our recommendations for school, work and home. This option is only available to clients who have already received a medical diagnosis of Tourette or other tic disorder.
-
Parental Consultation is available to parents seeking more information about tic disorders and their management, of who wish to consult about behaviors or difficulties co-occurring in a child with tics or tic disorder. Parent Consultations tend to be brief, lasting between 1 and 3 sessions, and can typically be scheduled more quickly than evaluations when parents are able to accommodate last minute cancellation appointments.
-
Parental Guidance is available to parents wishing to learn skills for helping their child to manage their tics and related difficulties. Parental Guidance is often offered alongside parental consultations.
-
Spousal or Family Consultations are similar to parent consultations, except the person consulting is the spouse or other family member of an adult with tics or tic disorder.
-
Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) is a brief, 8 to 14 session therapy proven effective at reducing tics for approximately 60% of persons who try it. CBIT focuses on making changes in your lifestyle and directly targeting your tics, one tic at a time. CBIT is appropriate for children (age 8+), teens and adults. We offer CBIT to adults and teens beginning at age 15, and are in the process of recruiting a child therapist to provide CBIT to children between ages 8 and 14.
-
Cognitive Psychophysiological Therapy for Tics (CoPs) is a brief, 11-session therapy shown to be effective at reducing tics among at least 60% or persons who try it. The CoPS approach focuses on modifying some of the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that seem to increase tic severity, as well as the person's acceptance of their tics. CoPs is appropriate for children (age 8+), teens and adults. We offer CoPs to adults and teens beginning at age 15, and are in the process of recruiting a child therapist to provide CoPs to children between ages 8 and 14.
